Introduction:

For many years, the Imperial Capital of Japan has been under attack by the forces of evil. Because of that, Kanzaki Heavy Industries has designed “Koubu”, mechanical fighting armors that can enchance the spirit power of its driver. But not just anyone can man the “Koubu” machines; only gifted people with enough mental control will be able to pilot them.

Those gifted pilots are all united as the “Imperial Opera Troup” (Teikoku Kageki Dan). Apart from saving the Imperial Capital and piloting the Kouku, they’re also famous actresses that work on the stage. But the fight against evil has not been going well at all, and the government plans to fund the Koubu is in danger. The new member of the Imperial Opera Troup, Shinguuji Sakura, a young woman from Sendai and the daughter of a famous warrior.

The arrival of Sakura at the Imperial Capital is accompanied by a lot of comic mischief and disaster, but soon she is accepted as the group’s troublemaker and top fighter. But even with Sakura as new addition, the group still suffers defeat on the battlefield. A new plan is devised to ensure solid leadership within the group, and the handsome young sailor called Ohgami Ichirou is summoned for the Opera Troupe’s next phase.

Sakura Wars was produced by Sega, and the anime as well as the games were a big hit in Japan. The TV series are only available for Japanese viewers, but recently a whole new version of the OVA was published in English and Japanese. Sakura Wars is a story of love and courage, accentuated with a huge dose of humor.
